Hello everyone,
I wrote a post last month, telling you about the ISA (International Stuttering Association) outreach project which I want to start in a few days.
The purpose of the project is · to inform as many Indian people as possible about Stammering, the problems facing stammerers, and that as there are many stammerers in the world, Indian stammerers should not feel alone; · to find ways of making information about Stammering available to the Indian people; · to find ways of making information about therapies, courses, books, techniques available to the Indian people.
To start this project, I was thinking of writing e-mails to as many English speaking newspapers as possible, asking them if they would accept a series of articles from me.
The second phase of this project would be for someone to translate the articles into Hindi or any other appropriate language. Then it would be necessary to contact Hindi or other newspapers. I need some help in this second phase of the project. Could anybody take the time to translate my articles?
(Would members like to read the articles and comment on them briefly before I sent them?)
The third phase of the project is to start up an Indian Stammering website. Can anyone in this group help me here please? Once the website is available we can arrange a section for general Stammering information, another one for Indian people's thoughts and ideas, another for links to other websites, another for therapies and courses, another for books etc, another for....... The website can be what the Indian people want it to be. Would anyone have time to act as a Webmaster?
The fourth phase of the project would be to contact universities to ask them if they could offer facilities for meetings or conferences, and free occasional help from trained therapists.
The fifth phase of the project would be to persuade Indian people who stammer to set up Stammering support groups in all of the major cities throughout India. Where possible these support groups should be free, with the exception of any costs incurred in publicity or hiring a meeting place.
A sixth phase would be to contact the government of India to see if there's any way they can assist in the other five phases.
When writing to the newspapers, it will be necessary to give contact details. I would certainly give the website address of the ISA and I will give my own e-mail address. Would the moderator / members want me to give the address of this group as well?
Would anybody else like to work with me during any of the phases and also to have their e-mail address attached for Indian people to contact?
How can we reach those people who do not buy newspapers?
If you have suggestions on which cities and which newspapers within each city to contact please don't hesitate to let me know. Help from you would be very much appreciated, because if this project, with your help, is completed successfully, it will not only be very useful for you, but it will also help and be of use to other stammerers in India.
As with the best therapy, the ISA wants to help you to help yourselves.
Would it be useful for someone to translate this post to Hindi and include it as a second post?
Are there any Hindi speaking stammering groups?
All of you take care,
